KC Chief's Training Camp Will Move to St. Joseph
KANSAS CITY, MO, (kansascityfrontpage.com) - Gov. Jay Nixon visited the campus of Missouri Western State University to announce a renegotiated and finalized agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs that will bring the team's training camp from Wisconsin to St. Joseph.

This agreement, which was originally conceived and initially approved under the previous administration, ensures that the region will receive the economic benefits of relocating the training camp, while also providing responsible protection of Missouri taxpayer resources.

Under the finalized agreement, the Missouri Development Finance Board today awarded the Chiefs $25 million in financial incentives to relocate their training camp to Missouri. In exchange for this package, the Chiefs will contribute $10 million in proceeds from the sale of the tax incentives to help Missouri Western State University construct a new $13.4 million athletic facility on its campus.

The team will use this facility for its annual camp approximately three weeks every summer. During the remainder of the year, the facility will be available for use by Missouri Western students, faculty and community members. Under this agreement, the Chiefs have pledged to keep their training camp in Missouri for at least 10 years. For the first five years, the camp is to be located at the new Missouri Western facility. After five years, the terms of the finalized agreement stipulate that the Chiefs and Missouri Western can agree to one-year extensions to keep the camp in St. Joseph; both the team and the University have an equal voice in these extension decisions.

"I am pleased my administration has been able to reach a solid agreement with the Chiefs that will bring this facility and the team's training camp to St. Joseph, while also respecting and protecting Missouri taxpayers' dollars," Gov. Nixon said. "By locating their training camp at Missouri Western, the Chiefs will provide a top-quality new athletic facility for the university's students and the community, and the excitement of the annual training camp will help create jobs and boost the region's economy. I appreciate the hard work of my administration, the Chiefs, Missouri Western and the St. Joseph community that has brought this agreement to completion."
