Ted's Montana Grill is a classic American grill known for fresh, made-from-scratch dishes served in a warm, relaxed setting of casual luxury - and is also known for its deep commitment to being environmentally responsible. The company, based in Atlanta, was co-founded in 2002 by media entrepreneur and environmentalist Turner and award-winning restaurateur McKerrow. There are currently 54 Ted's Montana Grill restaurants nationwide, including two in Kansas City and one in Leawood. In a release, McKerrow, president and CEO of Ted's Montana Grill, said, "We couldn't be more excited to bring our restaurant to Kansas City's next great retail and entertainment destination. The Power & Light District is bringing a new vibrancy to downtown and it's great to be a part of that revitalization." Ted's Montana Grill is one of the first restaurants to open in the new Kansas City Power & Light District. Developed by the Cordish Company in partnership with the city of Kansas City and the state of Missouri, the $850 million mixed-use district will anchor $4 billion of complementary development efforts in downtown Kansas City. Ted's is also an "eco-friendly" establishment. Menus are printed on recycled paper, with recycled brown butcher paper lining the dining tables. Soft drinks come in recyclable glass bottles and, instead of plastic, wax-coated paper drinking straws and to-go cups made of corn starch are offered. Ted's recently installed low-voltage, long-lasting lighting in all of its restaurants to reduce the amount of electricity consumed. Finally, each restaurant is non-smoking.
KANSAS CITY, (SLFP.com), January 6, 2008 - The Cordish Company has announced the addition of The Peachtree Restaurant to the Kansas City Power & Light District, allowing this treasured restaurant to stay in the City. Roy Wilmore, general manager and heir to The Peachtree family business, will open his parent's renowned soul food restaurant in a 5,500 square foot space in the heart of the District, on the southeast corner of Main Street and 14th Street. In a statement, Wilmore said, "The Peachtree Restaurant has been my parent's shared passion for years. We had made the decision to close The Peachtree at 18th & Vine and were actively searching for a new location that would allow us to maximize our return on investment and hopefully stay downtown, when my mom decided to contact The Cordish Company to see what options were still available in the Kansas City Power & Light District. We were delighted by The Cordish Company's enthusiastic reaction and the knowledge that we would also be working with another family-owned business. A traditional soul food restaurant, The Peachtree serves up some serious down home cooking including Southern fried chicken, old time salmon croquettes, boiled spiced peel-and-eat shrimp, smothered pork chops, and their house specialty peach cobbler. Local jazz musicians create a lively atmosphere for guests. "James and Vera Willis created a one-of-a-kind restaurant that focuses on family tradition, and they are proud that their son Roy Wilmore has been inspired to take the family business to the next level with his energy and new ideas," stated Zed Smith , vice president of The Cordish Company, the developer of the Kansas City Power & Light District. The Peachtree Restaurant will locate in the same building as Bristol Seafood Grill on a portion of 14th Street named Restaurant Row. Restaurant Row's tenants will all feature extensive outdoor seating areas, spectacular landscaping and valet parking. Across the street from the revitalized Mainstreet Theatre and a few steps from the Sprint Center, The Peachtree is the perfect compliment to the previously announced restaurants and entertainment options that will locate in the District.
